Choose a design and development partner by how well its approach fits your brief. Location can help with communication, but a useful comparison also looks at relevant work, the people doing it and the responsibilities included in the proposal. A “best agency” label is not enough to make that decision.
Start with the business need
Write down who will use the website or system and what needs to change. Include existing tools, content readiness, deadlines and a budget range. This lets partners recommend a scope instead of quoting against different assumptions.
Ask for relevant project evidence
Find out what the partner designed, developed or integrated in each example. A portfolio image can show visual work, but it does not prove backend delivery, maintenance or measured outcomes. Ask questions tied to the requirements of your own project.
Agree how communication will work
Discuss the working language, review process, decision maker and milestone schedule. If you are collaborating remotely, identify how designs, previews and feedback will be shared. Avoid relying on an informal promise that updates will be frequent.
Compare complete proposals
Compare deliverables, exclusions, content responsibilities and third-party costs. Ask what happens when the scope changes, who manages hosting and accounts, and what the handover includes. A smaller proposal may be the right choice if its boundaries are clear.
